Daily Mirror gets its pies in a twist
The Daily Mirror, still pushing hard for a Labour victory, has been a trifle dishonest in its presentation of the polling evidence.
Yesterday it published a pie-chart purporting to show how the parties stood. We’ll overlook the fact that sombody has eaten part of the pie: the three main parties’ support adds up to only 90 per cent. They should have included another slice, labelled “others and undecided” for the final 10 per cent.
What is striking (above) is the distortion of the parties’ share. Labour, with 27 per cent of the poll, gets just as big a slice as the Conservatives, on 34 per cent. The Liberal Democrats, on 29 per cent, get more than either.
Was this a mistake? I ask because when you look at the same chart on the Mirror's website (below), it is correctly proportioned. Odd.

The printed pie chart looks like a mirror image (appropriately enough) of the website version; maybe this led someone to swap the labels & colours for the Lib Dem and the Conservative slices.

They both look strikingly similar. The Daily Mirror's mirror image isn't fooling anyone. Are they pulling a pimsleur approach? Did you contact them and ask them about it?
