Can U afford Man U?
Wild excitement must have gripped readers of The Guardian on Saturday, when they read on Page 1 of the sports section that Manchester United was valued at a mere £800,000, not the £1.5 million previously reported.
That’s the price of a reasonably substantial family house in London. So Manchester United, the world’s biggest football club by some people’s reckoning, is within the grasp of thousands of us - assuming the Glazer family is willing to sell.
Needless to say, it was a misprint. The full story, on Page 3, made it clear that the valuation was £800 million, not the £1.5 billion previously reported. Just a thousand times more. What a pity.

It is quite startling when one reads how much football clubs are worth! The worth of the famous Manchester United was a revelation even though the misprint brought it down from 1.5 billion GBP to 800 million GBP; either way an exorbitant sum! It looks like the wealthy group of MU fans trying to buy the club from the original owners will have to do some rethinking. I have heard that there is a lot of money involved in football but this is outrageous! Jana @ security credentials
